Year Two exploded into their space topic like a Supernova with a fantastic Wow Day. Firstly, they learned about Space sand (the closest thing we have to Martian sand on Earth). It is hydrophobic so it doesn´t mix with water. The children enjoyed conducting several experiments with the sand to see how they could change it´s properties. They discovered that washing up liquid changed the space sand to normal sand. However, they could not change it back to Martian sand! They then made 3D planets to display in their classroom by placing papier mache on balloons of varying sizes. They also learnt about the order of the planets from the sun and information about each one.
