Today we will be talking about the great story of Sir Tom Moore. Tom died a few days ago on the second of February 2021. He sadly passed away because of COVID 19 in Bedford Hospital at the age of 100. He had also suffered with pneumonia, and because of his treatment, he was unable to get vaccinated for COVID. People have been leaving floral tributes outside Captain Tom’s home in Marston Moretaine. In 2020 in the first lockdown in England, Tom decided to stay active by walking around his garden to raise money for the NHS, he ended up raising almost 33 million pounds! He originally set out to raise £1000 by walking 82ft (25m) loops of his garden. He achieved many life achievements in only a few months. Matt Hancock has stated that he had ‘touched the hearts of the nation.’ In July he was knighted by the Queen of England for all of his amazing achievements. Many monuments were lit up in tribute to Tom such as: Piccadilly circus and the Blackpool tower. Queen Elizabeth II also led a tribute in Tom’s honor. We are very sad about the loss of Captain sir Tom Moore, but we hope many others follow in his footsteps!
