Chinese New Year at BISM
Chinese New Year at The British International School of Marbella
On Friday 16th February, The British International School of Marbella celebrated Chinese New Year. After a week of learning about the traditions and culture of the most famous Chinese celebration, the school welcomed a special guest from a local Chinese School. Along with the whole school, Nang Nang listened to the Year 7 children explain some facts about the celebration in the style of a news broadcast before sharing some of her own traditions. The children then serenaded Nang Nang with a traditional Chinese New Year song which they had been learning as part of their music lessons. Poppy Campbell; one of the Middle School Pupils; also performed a stunning solo of another traditional Chinese song. Nang Nang was amazed and humbled to hear the children singing in her native Mandarin!
In addition to this, the children had been learning traditional Chinese dancing in their dance lessons and they were treated to a delicious Chinese themed lunch provided by our catering team.
To continue the new year celebrations, the children competed in a dragon making competition and then paraded their creative dragons in true Chinese New Year Parade style by playing instruments and dancing around the campus. It truly was a fantastic day at The British International School of Marbella!
