Secondary

The Secondary programme takes place over two phases; Lower Secondary (Years 7 to 9) and Upper Secondary (Years 10 and 11)
The Lower Secondary programme comprises core subjects (English, mathematics, Spanish and science) and non core subjects which are taught in modules within the Extended Curriculum programme. All subjects are taught by specialist teachers. Each term students are required to pass an exam in each core subject, with retakes for those who don’t pass. This is meant to ensure that everyone meets the required standard and no one falls behind. In the non-core subjects, pupils have a wide range of modules to chose from including modules in STEM subjects, the humanities, arts, business and enterprise music, drama and sports.

In Years 10 and 11, students follow the GCSE programme. All pupils study English, Maths, Spanish and at least one science subject and chose additional subjects from a range of options. The programme is rich in content with emphasis placed on the application of subject knowledge to problem solving. Regular evaluations take place throughout the year in preparation for externally assessed final examinations at the end of Year 11.
Subjects from the Spanish ESO programme that are not covered in the GCSE programme are also offered allowing students to obtain the equivalent Spanish school qualifications, essential for those considering further education at a Spanish university.
